SUMMARY:June In-Person Writer's Clubhouse | A Co-Writing Space
DESCRIPTION:Join the Office of Modern Composition for an in-person co-writing session on Wednesday\, June 4th\, from 4–5:30 pm CST.  \nA co-write is when you show up to a specific place with another writer and sit and write together for an agreed-upon amount of time. Since 2020\, OMC has hosted weekly co-writes that meet online (you can find those on our MeetUp). But now\, if you’re interested in joining us in person\, we invite you to come write with us at––get this––the actual\, literal office of the Office of Modern Composition. \nWhat will it be like?\nYou’ll bring your computer or your notebook to our office and work in our space. When your mind wanders\, you’ll be able to gaze out the windows at pretty Lake Michigan. The event is a totally free\, totally casual\, totally supportive opportunity for writers to come together and Just. Write. Spend 90 minutes journaling\, putting the finishing touches on your novel\, writing a limerick\, or drafting a love letter. Bodacious snacks are provided. \nWhere is it?\nOffice of Modern Composition\, Suite 2002\n8 S. Michigan Avenue\, Suite 2002\, Chicago\, IL 60615 \nWhat should I bring?\nWhatever you need to do your writing: a computer and a charger (if you think you’ll need to charge it while you’re there) or paper notebook and pen; a portable typewriter; whatever works for you. You can also bring a friend or two! \nJoin our Meetup Group to stay abreast of upcoming events

SUMMARY:Workshop - INSIDE OUT: Creative Journaling and Generating for Publication
DESCRIPTION:Do you enjoy writing but find yourself feeling stuck when you sit down at the page? Or maybe you feel like journaling would help you move through difficulties\, but you never seem to make time for it. Or do you want to push your personal writing from the pages of your own notebook and out into the world\, but you’re not sure how to create anything that other people would find worth reading? In this three-hour workshop\, you’ll be guided through a diversity of prompts ranging from the shortest\, lowest of stakes written tasks\, to more complex\, strategic\, and deeper exercises\, in order to take your personal nonfiction to the next level — whether it be for you alone or for a wider audience. You’ll leave with tools\, activities\, and ideas that you can use on a daily basis or anytime you need a little push to get unblocked. Writers at all levels will benefit from this experiential dive into the processes that allow us to use language to untangle ourselves. \n  \nSophie Lucido Johnson is an award-winning memoirist and New Yorker cartoonist. Her first book\, “Many Love: A Memoir of Polyamory and Finding Love(s)” was nominated for a LAMBDA literary award\, and was published by Simon & Schuster. “Dear Sophie\, Love Sophie: A Graphic Memoir In Diary Entries\, Letters\, and Lists” was published by Harper Collins. She has had work in The New York Times\, The Guardian\, The Believer\, Bon Appetit\, The Chicago Reader\, and many other places. She teaches writing at The Chicago High School for the Arts and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
